Two Monday Arrests for the Carmi Police Department
A New Haven woman is scheduled to appear in court on theft charges. On Monday, August 8th, 21 year old Shayla Grove of 1051 Vine Street in New Haven was arrested in the lobby of the Carmi Police Department on a White County warrant for Theft under $300. Grove was booked in the White County Jail where bond was set at $250. She paid bond and was released. A court date for Grove has been set for September 6th at 9:00 AM.

Two Theft Reports and Three Arrests in the White County Sheriff’s Department Report
Last Friday a Carmi man filed a theft report saying that his car had been stolen. 64 year old Mark Winters told the White County Sheriff’s Department that his silver 2005 GMC Yukon had been stolen sometime between August 1st and August 5th. Winters stated that there is a 4 inch by 4 inch section of the chrome plated bumper that was missing on either the front or back bumper of the vehicle. No more information about this case has been made available at this time.

Tate Court Date Set
Convicted Cop killer, Ray E Tate is set to appear in Wayne County court Tuesday morning in front of Judge Molt at 9:00 AM via Zoom. On December 29th, 2021 Tate shot and killed Wayne County Deputy Sean Riley after a call was placed for a motorist assist on I-64, then fled the scene and headed to Missouri where a crime spree ensued involving hijacking and taking a homeowner hostage. In April, Tate plead guilty to 38 counts of murder, however on May 19th, Tate asked to withdraw his plea in an effort to avoid dying in prison. Tate appeared in court via Zoom on June 28th for a status hearing. He is currently being housed in the Menard Correctional Facility.

Ronald L. Parks of Boonville, IN formerly of Carmi, IL passed away Monday, August 8, 2022. He was born May 4, 1945, in Burnt Prairie, IL, the son of John L. and Hattie M. (Taylor) Parks. Ron served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. He was an active member of the Boonville American Legion, often serving in various administrative roles. He was a past Mason and Shriner in Evansville. Ron retired from The Evansville Courier & Press as the Assistant Controller (treasurer). He enjoyed horseback riding and camping with the Saddle Club.

White County Fair Crowns New Royalty to Open Festivities
Night one of the 143rd White County Fair is in the books and some familiar names are wearing crowns. The new Little Miss, Anna Claire Campbell beat out 11 other contestants for the title. The 8-year-old blonde haired, blue eyed Campbell enjoys arts and crafts, macaroni and cheese, tumbling, and cheering.

Carmi City Council Agenda, August 16th, 2022
The Carmi City Council will meet for the second of their two monthly meetings on August 16th at the City Council Chambers at 5:30 PM. McLeansboro City Council Set to Meet Tuesday
The McLeansboro City Council is set to gather Tuesday night on 102 West Main Street at City Hall and they have a full agenda planned for the evening. Along with the swearing in of the newly appointed Alderman for Ward #3, they will also be discussing granting approval to allow a double wide trailer at 201 South Douglas. They’ll be discussing approving a location for the Historical Society’s Jail as well as updating swimming pool regulations and potentially authorizing a handful of Resolutions. They’ll discuss approving a TIF reimbursement for McLeansboro Space Center and for MC Sales, LLC. The council will also discuss approving changes to the City of McLeansboro Code Book. The meeting is set to begin at 6PM.

Harness Racing Highlights Tuesday Night at the White County Fair
The Big 10 2 year old champ from 2021 kept on rolling to kick off Harness Racing at the 143rd annual White County Fair Tuesday night. Aqua’s Bud driven by Darla Lohman ran away with the 3 year old trot in the first race of the evening in a time of 2:06 and 4/5. 3 year old filly’s were paced by AniemayBombay driven by Cornelius Cavett covering the mile in 2:05 4/5. A winner at Wayne County recently, No Way Bombay was piloted by Danarius Dortch and took the 3 year old Colt/Gelding pace by 5 lengths in a time of 2:03 2/5. Marcus Turner drove Jammin High from the outside to win the 4th race, the 2 year old trot, division 1 in a time of 2:13 1/5. Division 2 was taken by TankMeToDennyland. The horse looked beaten twice and battled back after breaking stride once and then veering off course to begin the final lap before rallying on the final turn and still turning in a time of 2:10 3/5. The Dennis Gardner driven horse will now head to the Illinois State Fair where he’ll attempt to correct mistakes and come away with a $40,000 purse. Rocket Party took race 6, a competition between 2 year old pacers in the most exciting race of the evening. Rocket Party turned in a time of 2:07 2/5 and rallied by a neck to win after trailing the entirety of the race. Freddie Patton Jr. also walked away with a win in the final race of the evening behind a great effort from Frontier Manard in the Open Trot. Frontier Manard covered the mile in 2:10 2/5.
