Chico police have arrested a man they say stole at least four trailers and sold them to unsuspecting people on Facebook Marketplace.
According to police, officers were contacted by the CHP after a victim reported meeting a man named David Jones at a nearby casino to purchase a trailer they had seen listed on Facebook. The buyer later learned the trailer was stolen when they tried to register it with DMV.
Chico police learned of three similar incidents. In one of the incidents, officers say Jones listed the trailer for sale before stealing it.
Officers say Jones also stole a trailer that belonged to Youth for Change, a nonprofit organization that provides services to children, individuals and families in need.
This trailer originally possessed a license plate of 45M7044. If you purchased this trailer or have any information as to the location of this trailer, please contact Chico Police Detective Bureau at (530) 897-5820.
Tuesday, David Wayne Jones was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail.
Chico Police urge prospective buyers to be wary of any vehicle or trailer sale without proper paperwork that shows ownership. If you feel like the deal is “too good to be true” then it warrants a second look.
