Millie Bobby Brown to Star in New Russo Brothers Sci-Fi Movie

Millie Bobby Brown is set to star in a new Netflix sci-fi movie, Deadline reported on June 28. Titled "The Electric State," the film will star Brown as a teenage orphan who travels around the American West with a drifter and her well-mannered robot in an effort to find her lost brother. In short, it seems set to be the perfect blend of sci-fi, Americana, and heart.

The film is based on Simon Stålenhag's book "Tales From the Loop," which was adapted into a successful Amazon Prime series of the same name. "In late 1997, a runaway teenager and her small yellow toy robot travel west through a strange American landscape where the ruins of gigantic battle drones litter the countryside, along with the discarded trash of a high-tech consumerist society addicted to a virtual-reality system," the description of the source novel reads. "As they approach the edge of the continent, the world outside the car window seems to unravel at an ever faster pace, as if somewhere beyond the horizon, the hollow core of civilization has finally caved in."

The script will be adapted by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The film will be directed by Joseph and Anthony Russo, the team behind Netflix's forthcoming film "The Gray Man," which stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Regé-Jean Page; the duo also directed 2019's "Avengers: Endgame." There are rumors that Chris Pratt might star in the new project as well, though his involvement has not been confirmed.

Brown's performance as Eleven in "Stranger Things" has made her a household name and a natural candidate for a major sci-fi feature. The last two episodes of "Stranger Things" season four drop on July 1.
