Roncalli offensive lineman Trevor Lauck knew there was a possibility his scholarship offer at Iowa might not be there if he did not jump on it now.

The 6-6, 285-pound four-star offensive tackle committed to the Hawkeyes late Sunday after strongly considering offers from Michigan State and Ohio State. Lauck said the Iowa coaches plan to start him off at tackle, though he could potentially move to guard.

“Iowa had a limited amount of (offensive line spots) and I didn’t want to risk losing it,” Lauck said.

Lauck, ranked as the No. 5 in-state recruit on the 247Sports composite list, also had offers Michigan State and Ohio State, along with Indiana, Purdue, Cincinnati, Louisville, Michigan, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Rutgers, Tennessee, West Virginia and others. He joins Brownsburg offensive lineman Leighton Jones in the Hawkeyes’ 2023 recruiting class.

Iowa has built a reputation on producing offensive linemen.

“That was a huge factor for me,” Lauck said. “I wanted to go to a place where I know they really care about developing their linemen. It was clear that the offensive line is a priority there.”

Iowa’s recruiting class, with 13 commitments, is ranked No. 18 in the country by 247Sports and No. 5 in the Big Ten Conference.

“The top reason (to commit) was just all the great people they have in their program,” Lauck said. “From players to coaches they were all very real and honest throughout it all.”

Lauck was one of four top players from Central Indiana to commit over the weekend. New Palestine offensive lineman Luke Burgess committed to Louisville and Cathedral receiver Jaron Tibbs and North Central receiver T.J. McWilliams committed to Purdue.
