Fredrickson to retire as police chief

Concordia Police Chief Ric Fredrickson has announced that he will retire after 34 years in the law enforcement profession.
Fredrickson's final day as police chief will be Thursday.
“It is with mixed emotion that I announce my retirement,” Fredrickson said. “My 34-year tenure in law enforcement has provided a multitude of opportunities for learning, growth, support and leadership, both personally and professionally. Working for the Concordia Police Department for 27 years, and serving as chief for the final four, has been a lifelong goal of mine. I am incredibly proud to have served this community, working with other professionals who have not only been fellow employees, but extended family members.
Fredrickson was promoted to the position of police chief in September 2018. He had previously served as a patrol officer, school resource officer, animal control officer, sergeant, detective and lieutenant with the Concordia Police Department and was a deputy for the Cloud County Sheriff's Office for seven years.
“As I complete my service as a member of the local law enforcement community, I plan to continue residing in Cloud County, enjoying more free time with my family. I wish continued success to the leaders and citizens of the city of Concordia and I look forward to seeing future growth of our community,” Fredrickson said.
Concordia Fire Chief/EMS Director Eric Voss will serve as interim police chief until a replacement for Fredrickson in selected. A timeline for the search had not yet been determined.
The city will honor Fredrickson's service to Concordia during the city commission meeting on July 6.
“We appreciate Chief Fredrickson's dedication to this community. His willingness to serve the people of Concordia, to make our town better in a way that showed respect for everyone, is commendable,” Concordia city manager Amy Lange said. “We will certainly miss Ric, and we wish him all the best in his retirement.”
