A canceled flight doesn't always have to mean a vacation is ruined — the Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City is offering some families a free stay if their flight is canceled over the holiday weekend.

With the holiday weekend, metro Detroiters are itching for a quick getaway.

Over 2,000 flights were canceled across the country Wednesday, and 433 are already scheduled to be canceled on Friday, according to FlightAware. In Detroit, 19 were canceled on Wednesday.

Any family that has a flight cancellation over the weekend can post a screenshot of the cancellation notice to Twitter and tag @greatwolflodge use #GWLRescue, according to a news release.

The resort will randomly select 100 families who tweet for a free one-night stay in any of its 18 locations in the U.S.

The canceled flight must have been scheduled to depart between Friday and Monday. You must tweet the flight before 5 p.m. on July 5. The complimentary stays will be valid from Aug. 15 through Nov. 18. Block-out dates apply and a limited number of free stay vouchers may be used on the same day.

"Unfortunately many family travel plans this summer are being condensed or disrupted due to these flight cancellations," the statement read. "Families can recoup that carefree time playing and enjoying quality time together at the indoor water park resort."
