Marvin Koehler family is named 2022 outstanding family farm

OSMOND — The Marvin Koehler family was named Outstanding Farm Family during Summerfest 2022. The following nomination submission was read during the celebration.

Marvin Koehler Family Farm

We would like to nominate Marvin Koehler and his family’s farm for this year’s Outstanding Osmond Family Farm recognition. The farm is now into its 5th generation, having been started by Marvin’s grandfather.

The farm is primarily an agriculture and livestock operation that has seen a few changes over the years. Corn and soybeans remain the primary crops harvested, but Marvin’s grandchildren have branched out to implement new ideas.

Pigs and chickens are no longer found on the farm, but Marvin’s grandsons (and their families) have started a herd of fat cattle and cows that is continuing to grow.

Where a hog barn once sat, a fenceline feed bunk line now exists to help the cattle feeding operation.

A grain elevator and drying system have been implemented over the last 10 years, which has greatly improved the farm’s efficiency and sustainability to keep up with the changing times and technological advancements.

[There have been] many changes in tractors/other equipment over the years, including 2 of his grandsons starting to purchase some of their own equipment to continue the farm.

Marvin moved to Osmond with his late wife Janice in the late 1990s, and his son Dean and his wife Lori are currently living on the original homestead.

His grandsons are now starting to take a lead in the farm work and cattle to continue the many generations of Marvin’s family farm.

We would like to nominate him for the farm family because of all the support he has provided to Pierce County and helping his family pursue their dreams in farming.
