Several agencies are reporting advisories on fireworks due to fire hazard conditions leading up to the July 4 holiday. The restrictions come after many cities have already placed bans on burning throughout Middle Tennessee.
The City of Lewisburg as well as Ashland City, Tennessee have issued bans on fireworks and open burning until further notice.
The City of Lewisburg states that the Lewisburg Fire Department has fought four fires within the last week and they were all due to fireworks and the dry conditions.
Ashland City states that they reached this decision with much consideration and discussion and this measure is being taken for the safety of the citizens and their property.
They ask that current burning permit holders should discontinue until further notice.
In Gallatin, Fire Chief Jeff Beaman has advised residents, visitors and businesses not to shoot off personal fireworks due to the extremely dry current conditions.
“With the chance of rain this weekend, we will continue to monitor conditions and will quickly notify everyone should the status change,” said Beaman. “We know this isn’t a popular announcement, but the potential for fires is too great to ignore.”
Gallatin’s Fire Marshal Mark Hall has not issued any burn permits for open burning and will not until the area receives enough rain to impact the current drought conditions across Tennessee.
