Rafael Mendoza-Reyes, 21, of Concord, was charged with assault with intent to commit a felony and attempted kidnap for rape, as well as a misdemeanor sexual battery charge, according to authorities, the Mercury News reported.

The woman told investigators that Mendoza-Reyes allegedly grabbed her from behind and attempted to put her in his SUV while she was gardening at her home in Oakland on June 12.

She screamed, causing the suspect to run away. That's when she noticed he was naked from the waist down, the newspaper said.

Police used information from license plate readers to identify an SUV that matched the victim's description. Mendoza-Reyes was pulled over in the SUV two days later and was arrested.

He has pleaded not guilty and is set for a preliminary hearing on June 30. He is currently being held at the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office on a $1.15 million bail.

KCBS Radio reached out to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office regarding the case, but they were unable to provide further information.
