Stony Brook guard Tykei Greene (4) drives against Kansas' Christian Braun (2) during a Nov. 18 game at Allen Fieldhouse. Greene announced Wednesday that he is transferring to Kansas State.

Kansas State coach Jerome Tang added another veteran guard to his roster on Wednesday when Stony Brook's Tykei Greene announced on social media that he is joining the Wildcats as a fifth-year graduate transfer.

Greene, a 6-foot-4, 205-pounder from Queens, N.Y., spent two years at Manhattan and the past two at Stony Brook, where last season he averaged career highs of 14 points and 8.1 rebounds.

Tang, who retained just two players — senior point guard Markquis Nowell and junior forward Ismael Massoud — from Bruce Weber's 2021-22 team, has added nine players since taking over in late March and has two roster spots remaining.

Greene, who has developed into a consistent scoring threat over his career, was the second-leading scorer and top rebounder this past year on a Stony Brook team that went 18-13 overall and 10-8 in the America East Conference. He shot 52% from the field, including 42.6% from 3-point range and 64.4% from the free-throw line.

Stony Brook played Kansas last Nov. 18 in Lawrence, falling 88-59, but Greene scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds against the Jayhawks.

Greene averaged 9.7 points and 6.9 rebounds as a junior at Stony Brook. His two-year numbers at Manhattan were 7.6 points and 3.9 rebounds.

Greene, who has one year of eligibility remaining, will join a Wildcat backcourt of Nowell, Arkansas State grad transfer Desi Sills, sophomore Mississippi State transfer Cam Carter and New Orleans high school signee Dorian Finister.

The roster has four forwards, with Massoud, Virginia Tech transfer David N'Guessan, junior college transfer Nae'Qwan Tomlin from Chipola (Fla.) College and freshman Taj Manning. Tang also has signed centers Jerrell Colbert, a sophomore LSU transfer, and Hofstra graduate transfer Abayomi Iyiola.
