DOVER — The Tuscarawas County Health Department has received a supply of COVID-19 vaccines for children as young as 6 months.

To schedule vaccination, call the agency at 330-343-5555, extension 174 or 181. Phone lines are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

Parents and guardians may choose the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine brand.

The health department also offers COVID-19 vaccine appointments for first doses and booster doses for all eligible persons ages 6 months and older.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that children ages 6 months and older get a Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. The decision was made after analyzing substantial data from clinical trials involving thousands of children, confirming the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness for children in this age group. The CDC also advises that children age 5 and older who receive the Pfizer vaccine should get a booster at least five months after their second shot.

The county health department is at 897 E. Iron Ave., Dover.
