A Philadelphia man has been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of another man with a baseball bat at an apartment complex Monday night.

The suspect, Cortez Davis, 29, of Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with first-degree
murder in the incident at a Pearl Street apartment.

Bond has not been set at this time, Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons said Tuesday morning.

Davis’ arrest stems from an incident reported on June 27, at approximately 11 p.m. when Philadelphia Police officers responded to Pearl Street Apartments, 305 Pearl Street, to

reports of a male subject being assaulted with a baseball bat, Lyons said.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with a black male victim who was lying face down and unresponsive, he said.

“EMS arrived and transported the victim to Neshoba ER where he was pronounced dead
a short time later,” Lyons said.

The victim was identified as 65-year-old Milton Prince of Philadelphia.

While on scene the officer learned that Davis and Prince had been in an argument prior to the assault and determined that Davis assaulted Prince with the bat which lead to his death.

Davis was taken into custody at the scene and was transported to jail in Winston County where the city contracts to house prisoners.
