Silencer Central is the largest firearms manufacturing in South Dakota. The company hosted a grand opening event on Tuesday, June 28, to celebrate the new location and finished remodel.

Silencer Central, a firearms suppressor company based in Sioux Falls, recently completed renovations in its new headquarters at 4901 North Fourth Avenue just north of the airport. To celebrate, the company hosted a grand opening event on Tuesday.

The now 41,529 square foot building was previously owned by Cigna Tel-Drug until they closed in 2019 and Silencer Central bought it in 2020.

Silencer Central CEO Brandon Maddox thought the building was a good fit because it had both an office and a warehouse, which was convenient for the company as it outgrew its old place.

Maddox started Dakota Silencer in 2005 out of his home and eventually grew the business to include services in the 42 states where firearms suppressors are legal, eventually renaming the company Silencer Central in 2019.

An upstairs lounge area at Silencer Central on Tuesday, June 28, features free drinks and snacks for employees.

Silencer Central makes over 100,000 firearms parts a year, making it the largest firearm manufacturer in the state.

Maddox said about 100 employees will work out of the new location.

“This is a big project, and we had a lot of great people who helped with it. I’m glad it’s finally here,” Maddox

Maddox said they’ve put over $8 million into the building once furniture and demountable walls that allowed them to change the layout of the space were factored in. They also had to add more layers to the outside of the building to prevent water from coming in and windows to let in more light.

“It just screamed '80s,” Maddox said. “Now everything is new and open, and everything just looks cleaner and brighter than it was before.”

The newly built portion of the second floor overlooks the main entrance on Tuesday, June 28, where Silencer Central is hosting a grand opening event.

Part of the renovations included adding over 6,000 square feet to the second floor for more office space and updating the building and décor features to look more modern.

The building features an upstairs lounge area that offers free snacks and drinks for the employees. Human Resources and customer service offices are also upstairs now.

“It’s just great,” he said. “We wanted to have a nice building for our employees and give them a good space to work in – now we’ve got it. And we look forward to continuing our growth.”

There is over $100 million worth of inventory already in the two-story warehouse part of Silencer Central headquarters, but as the company continues to grow, Maddox is looking to add more space by building new warehouses in the lot just west of the building.

Silencer inventory stretches two stories high in the warehouse portion of their new headquarters in nothern Sioux Falls Tuesday, June 28.

Maddox said he’s also looking at putting a retail store in a Silencer-owned building in Tea.

Grand opening and employee appreciation

The grand opening event on June 28 included a VIP social hour with tours and an evening concert featuring country singer Tyler Farr.

Maddox said it was a great way to show off what the company has done and to show appreciation for the people who helped make it happen.

On Monday, the company also hosted an employee appreciation night and awarded one employee with a new car.

“It’s been a little tough with the remodeling and growing this quickly, but we want our employees to know we’re thankful for what they’ve been doing.”
