Kansas State continued to bolster its secondary for 2023 when coach Chris Klieman and his staff secured commitments from a pair of defensive backs on Tuesday.

The first to announce was Del City, Okla., cornerback Kanijal Thomas, who chose the Wildcats over offers from Big 12 foes Iowa State, Kansas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, as well as Memphis State. He visited Oklahoma State over the weekend.

Next up was a safety with a familiar name. Jack Fabris, from Bogart, Ga., is the son Jon Fabris, who served two stints (1997-98 and 2017-18) as a defensive line coach at K-State under Bill Snyder.

With those additions, K-State commitment list now stands at nine, with six of them signing on in June.

The 5-foot-11, 275-pound Thomas is a three-star prospect according to Rivals and 247 Sports. He helped Del City High School to a 9-2 record as a junior and recorded 46 tackles with five passes defended.

"I’m thankful for all the coaches who took their time effort and energy into me, and after a conversation with my mother I am 110% committed to the University of Kansas State," Thomas wrote on social media.

Fabris, a 6-1, 200-pound receiver and defensive back, projects as a safety at K-State. Last year, he helped North Oconee High School reach the Georgia state semifinals with a 10-4 record. His other scholarship offers were from Army, Georgia Southern and Old Dominion.

Thomas and Fabris give K-State four defensive backs for the 2023 cycle, joining Wichita Collegiate's Wesley Fair and Kameron Sallis from Kennedale, Texas. A fifth, Collin Dunn from Tuscaloosa, Ala., could play either safety or outside linebacker.

The recruiting news wasn't all positive Tuesday for the Wildcats. After beating Iowa State head-to-head for several in-state prospects, one finally got away when the Cyclones nabbed Derby defensive end Samuel Same.

The 6-5, 215-pound Same visited Iowa State and Oregon State and also had offers from K-State, Kansas, Minnesota and Nebraska.

The summer recruiting blitz isn't over for K-State, which awaits decisions from three targets in the coming week. The first is St. Louis cornerback Donovan McIntosh, who will announce his decision Friday from a list of offers that includes K-State, KU, Arkansas, Memphis and Nebraska.

Joe Jackson, a 6-foot, 185-pound running back from Davenport, Florida, has set July 4 as his commitment date. He also has offers from Duke, Rutgers, Alcorn State and Appalachian State.

And the one that everybody is waiting for, Maize quarterback Avery Johnson, will choose between K-State, Oregon and Washington at 3 p.m. July 5 at Maize High School.

Lawrence Free State offensive tackle Calvin Clements, another top-10 prospect in the state of Kansas, indicated on social media Tuesday that his decision is imminent as well. He visited Baylor this past weekend and has narrowed his finalists to the Bears, K-State and his hometown Kansas Jayhawks.

K-State already has commitments from five of the top 10-rated players in Kansas for 2023 — Fair, Derby running back Dylan Edwards, Kansas City Piper offensive lineman Camden Beebe, Blue Valley wide receiver Andre Davis and Kapaun-Mt. Carmel tight end Will Anciaux.
