Sandy Creek, N.Y. — A 62-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the murder of an Oswego County resident, State Police announced Wednesday.
Alva G. Parsons, of Sandy Creek, was charged with second-degree murder, according to a news release Wednesday from State Police.
On Monday, troopers said they received a request for a welfare check for a 29-year-old living in Sandy Creek, troopers said.
On Wednesday, troopers conducting a search found Charles W. Rothenburg dead inside a residence at 5863 State Route 11, they said.
Troopers released few other details of what happened including how the man died.
Troopers had been searching for Rothenburg since Monday, according to State Police spokesperson Trooper Jack Keller. After days of searching, they received a tip that Rothenburg may be inside Parsons’ home, Keller said.
They found Rothenburg’s inside Parsons residence, Keller said.
When asked about the cause of death, a member of the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office said that to the best of their knowledge the autopsy had not been completed.
It appears Parsons and Rothenburg were acquaintances, Keller said.
Parsons was taken to the Oswego County Jail to await arraignment, troopers said.
The investigation is still ongoing, troopers said.
