Dodgers: Clayton Kershaw Was Very Blunt About His Poor Performance in Colorado on Tuesday

The Dodgers look tired coming into Colorado this week. After a hard-fought series with the Braves over the weekend and a late flight into the Mile High City, the team just looks flat. That happened again on Tuesday night with Clayton Kershaw on the mound.

Kersh got dinged with 6 earned runs on 9 hits across just 4 innings of work. The Rockies jumped all over the Dodgers southpaw, who also allowed 4 walks in the outing. He had surrendered that many free passes over his last 3 outings combined.

After the Dodgers’ loss, Kershaw was pretty blunt with his performance. He didn’t make any excuses about having to pitch in Colorado or the grind of going from Atlanta to play in Denver in a matter of a few days. He flew ahead of the team on Sunday to prepare for his start.

“I’m going to go with, just not overthink it and just say I sucked today. Thankfully they’ll let me do it again in five days. But not a lot of positives today, for sure. …I haven’t been that bad in a long time. It was good. Check you where you’re at. Remember this game’s not easy. Get going again.”

And while the Dodgers’ offense did show some life, they could not overcome the start from Kershaw. Yency Almonte allowed a run to come across against his former team in the 6th inning, but the bullpen shut them down for the other 3 innings of work.

But the good news is that this is a new day and an opportunity to regroup. The Dodgers will send Julio Urias out to the mound this evening to face off against German Marquez, who has had a lot of success against Los Angeles over the years. He owns a 2.89 ERA over 12 starts against them.
