The Rices Fire, which sparked at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, is located in Nevada County, by Rices Crossing Road and Cranston Road, south of Dobbins near the Yuba River.

CAL FIRE on Wednesday night said the fire was 10% contained after reaching 904 acres. The fire is holding at the border between Nevada and Yuba counties, and officials in the latter jurisdiction are prepared to evacuate as needed.

Officials have identified one structure has been destroyed, but they're aware of many more. An overnight damage inspection is expected to reveal others, with officials set to update the totals on Thursday. One firefighter has been injured so far.

Evacuation orders have been issued for Bridgeport, Rice's Crossing, the Buttermilk area, French Corral, Birchville and Sweetland. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office estimated about 300 people in 250 residences have been ordered to evacuate.

Officials said Wednesday night that "an exposure from a structure fire" nearby ignited the Rices Fire, and the cause of the initial "working structure fire" remains under investigation.
