KEY DISCUSSION The "big highlight" on the agenda of the Norwayne Local Schools Board of Education's June agenda was recognition of the boys track team winning the state competition and the Norwayne High School JustWrite team earning second place at the state level, Superintendent Kevin Leatherman said.

Individuals placing at the state level on the high school's JustWrite team are Katy Magyar, ninth place; Abigail Arnold, 10th place; and Abigail Hassenzahl, 13th place.

The track and writing state competition achievements were "two really neat things," Leatherman said.

The June agenda may have been comparatively light on other business, Leatherman said, but it is a busy time of year for district personnel as they close down one school year and prepare for the next.

OTHER DISCUSSION One of the biggest summer projects in the Norwayne district is the resurfacing of the elementary school parking lot and playground, Leatherman said.

The project starts Friday, July 1, and is projected to take at least a week to be completed. By mid-July, it will be ready to use again.

Norwayne school buildings will be closed for July

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

1. Norwayne school buildings will be closed for July, but the district office will be open with variable hours. Leatherman advised calling ahead of stopping in.

2. The board approved a school bus emergency plan. School buildings have a crisis emergency plan with instructions outlined on a flip chart, Leatherman said, but "there was nothing like that for our transportation department."

For example, Leatherman said, bus drivers should have information on the protocol to be followed in the case of encountering a tornado.

Each bus will now have a flip chart — "a resource to guide (drivers)" — to follow in case of an emergency.
