Police investigate afternoon shooting in Ottumwa

Just before 4:30 p.m., Ottumwa police officers responded to the area of East Main and Brick Row for a report of a man that was bleeding from his head and neck.
OTTUMWA, Iowa —

Authorities in Ottumwa are investigating after an afternoon altercation escalated to gunfire Tuesday.

Just before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the area of East Main and Brick Row for a report of a man who was suffering from blunt force trauma to his head and neck.

The victim was located and identified as Jose Rosalio Hernandez, 20, of Ottumwa.

A few minutes later, officers were called to the Ottumwa Regional Health Center Emergency Room for a report of a man with a gunshot wound to his leg.

The man was identified as Anibar Timothy, 18, of Ottumwa.

It was found that an altercation had taken place between two groups of individuals inside Foster Park on the East End of Ottumwa.

The injuries that Timothy and Hernandez received were a result of the altercation.

Both received non-life threatening injuries and were treated and released from the hospital.

No arrests have been made at this time.
