Fireworks, parades, festivities planned to celebrate Fourth of July

As the Fourth of July weekend approaches, there are many local celebrations to choose from to spend the holiday with family and friends. Here’s a list of fireworks displays, parades and festivities:

ALLEGHENY COUNTY

Brentwood

On July 3, Brentwood will hold its Street Fair and the Battle of the Barrel, and July 4, the 39th annual Brentwood Firecracker 5K Race will begin at 9 a.m. at Brentwood Towne Square, with a parade at 10 a.m. on Brownsville Road.

Fireworks will go off at 9:30 p.m. on the Fourth of July at Brentwood Park.

Carnegie

Carnegie will celebrate Independence Day beginning at 1 p.m. on July 3 at Carnegie Park.

Festivities will include food, games, a DJ, live bands, face painting, a bouncy house and fireworks, which will begin at dusk.

Crafton

Crafton’s Fourth of July celebration will be held from 7-11 p.m. at Crafton Park.

The event will include food trucks and nonprofit booths, and the Second Breakfast Band will perform from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Fireworks will go off at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Findlay Township

Findlay will hold a “Fireworks Celebration” starting at 5 p.m. on July 3 at the Recreation and Sports Complex at Leopold Lake on Route 30.

The free event will feature food trucks, music, balloon and airbrush tattoo artists, kettle corn, cotton candy, Kona Ice and free giveaways.

Fireworks by Pyrotecnico will begin at approximately 9:45 p.m.

According to the Findlay Township calendar, there will be no parking on Route 30, but shuttles will run from the Activity Center, Valley Presbyterian Church and Municipal Building.

Leetsdale

Fourth of July festivities will begin with a parade at 10 a.m. starting at the corner of Village Drive and Beaver Street by the Giant Eagle.

It will travel down Beaver Street to Broad Street and end at Henle Park near the corner of Ferry and Broad streets. Multiple police, fire and EMS units are expected to have their vehicles in the parade.

Quaker Valley High School marching band will perform, and the Leetsdale Garden Club and other organizations are expected to have floats.

There will also be a sensory-friendly zone set up along Broad Street for those who don’t enjoy sirens or other loud noises.

Activities are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Henle Park.

Local singer John Tucci will sing the National Anthem, and other entertainment includes jugglers and balloon artists, food trucks, a food tent and inflatables for the children. The park’s splash pad also will be open.

Food vendors include Kona Ice, Grills on Wheels, Beatnik Sweet Eats and Los Gingos Tacos.

Several bands will take the stage, starting with Bobby Thompson and the Groove at 3 p.m., Rev Ezra and the Lone Pines at 5 p.m. and Identity Crisis at 7 p.m.

Leetsdale VFW Post 3372, adjacent to the park, will be open for beer sales.

Zambelli fireworks will close out the night.

Monroeville

The Fourth of July parade will travel along Route 22 beginning at 9 a.m.

Fireworks will light up the sky at 9:30 p.m. at the Monroeville Mall Annex, put on by Pyrotecnico.

Moon Township

Moon will hold events on Monday at Moon Park, starting at 4 p.m. that will include food and entertainment.

Kid-friendly activities from 4-7 p.m. will include inflatables, a magician, balloon artists, train rides, a dunk tank, face painting, pony rides, a petting zoo and kiddie rides.

The Doo Wop All Stars will play at 4:30 p.m., Michael Christopher will perform at 6 p.m., there will be a Military Salute with the National Anthem at 8 p.m. and Totally ’80s at 8:30 p.m.

Fireworks will end the festivities at 10 p.m.

According to the Moon Township website, dogs are not allowed in the park during the event.

Mt. Lebanon

Mt. Lebanon will host its “July 4th Community Day Celebration” on the holiday at Mt. Lebanon Main park.

At 7:30 p.m., The Brighton Boys, a pop rock band, will play a free concert at the basketball courts, and at 9:30 p.m., there will be a fireworks display.

During the day from noon to 7 p.m., the Mt. Lebanon Outdoor Swim Center is open.

According to Mt. Lebanon’s website, the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center parking lot will be closed, and only handicap parking is permitted with an official handicap permit.

The celebration’s rain date is July 5.

Pittsburgh

The city’s Fourth of July festivities will run from 4-10 p.m. at Point State Park and include entertainment, activities, line dancing and a performance of Squonk’s “Hand to Hand.”

Snacks, meals and desserts will be available at concession stands throughout the park.

Attendees will be subject to a security screening, including a bag check, upon entry.

The city’s fireworks, presented by Zambelli, will begin at 9:35 p.m. WPXI will broadcast the display.

Robinson Township

On the Fourth of July, Robinson Township will put on a Pyrotecnico fireworks display at the Burkett Sports and Recreation Complex.

According to its Facebook page, attendees should arrive early and bring a blanket or chair for the evening under the stairs.

Festivities will begin at dusk.

Ross Township

On July 3, the celebrations begin with the Perrysville Parade at 2 p.m.

The parade route runs along Perry Highway from St. John’s Church to the Perrysville Fire Department.

After the parade, the Ross Township Community Center will hold a celebration beginning at 4 p.m. with music by Max Snyder. After that, live music will continue until dark with Jake Rubenstein playing at 5 p.m., Luke Self at 6 p.m., Wiseguyz at 7 p.m. and Uptown Rhythm and Brass from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

Additionally, family fun from 5 to 9 p.m. will include a balloon artist, airbrush tattoos, strolling magicians and a petting zoo. Food trucks, Kona Ice and the North Hills Girls Soccer Concessions will keep attendees nourished and hydrated.

Fireworks will begin at dusk.

Scott Township

Fireworks will light up the sky in Scott Park at approximately 9:30 p.m. on July 4, depending on lighting and weather.

Shaler Township

Community Day festivities will begin at noon July 4 at the Crawford Pool in Kiwanis Park, with a DJ playing music and the Shaler Shack, along with other food vendors, on hand throughout the day.

Kids can play at the playground, take a swim, and from 2-4 p.m., take a ride on a firetruck from one of the local departments.

Community tents will be set up from 6 p.m. until dusk.

The Uptown Rhythm Brass Band will take the stage at 7 p.m., and at 8 p.m., the township will hold a military recognition ceremony for those serving or recently discharged.

At dusk, a fireworks show will be put on by Pyrotecnico.

Tarentum

Summit Hose Company will sponsor a fireworks display at 10 p.m. July 3 at Dreshar Stadium. There will be no activities or refreshments at the stadium.

Upper St. Clair and South Fayette

As part of a yearly partnership, Upper St. Clair and South Fayette will launch a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. on the Fourth of July from Fairview Park.

The display can be viewed from Fairview Park in South Fayette Township, Boyce Mayview Park in Upper St. Clair or from various locations throughout the community, according to the South Fayette Township website.

Parking will be limited in Fairview Park.

West Mifflin

Kennywood will hold its “Celebrate America” fireworks show at 10:15 p.m. around the lagoon nightly from July 1-4.

The celebration will include extended park hours, entertainment and the Wiener 100 dachshund races.

Military members will receive free admission by presenting a valid military ID, and can purchase up to four discounted tickets at $39.99 each.

FAYETTE COUNTY

Connellsville

To celebrate the Fourth of July, Connellsville will hold a “Red, White and Boom” celebration on July 2 on Arch Street, according to Mayor Greg Lincoln on Facebook.

The festivities will include food, music, vendors, fireworks and beer.

Performers will include Sam Brooks at 3 p.m., Laurie and Shirley Acoustic Duo at 5 p.m. and Wizdom at 7:30 p.m.

Fireworks will go off after 9:30 p.m. at dark.

Wharton Township

Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa will hold a variety of activities and events.

Some options include live music, carriage rides, arts and crafts, family bingo, family movies, wildlife activities and train rides.

The weekend will end with a fireworks celebration at 9:15 p.m. on July 3 at The Peak.

SOMERSET COUNTY

Champion

Seven Springs Mountain Resort will have a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. on July 3.

According to its website, the best vantage points are from the grass area below the Bavarian Beach Pool and the area around the Foggy Goggle and Emo’s Pit.

WASHINGTON COUNTY

Canonsburg

On Monday, Canonsburg will hold its Fourth of July celebration beginning at 9 a.m. with remarks from Mayor David Rhome and Fourth of July Committee Chairman Jennifer Shinshasky at the Salandra Tribute Center parking lot.

Then, a parade will begin at 10 p.m. at Cavasina Drive, ending at Bluff Street.

The fesitivites will continue at Town Park from noon to 6 p.m., with free admission to the pool, inflatables, rock climbing and face painting. There will also be live entertainment at the main pavilion at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Fireworks will go off at 10 p.m., produced by Zambelli Fireworks International. The rain date for fireworks is July 5, and the stadium will be closed for fireworks viewing this year.

According to its website, parade chairs cannot be placed until 48 hours prior to the parade’s start, so the earliest they can be placed is 10 a.m. on July 2. Chairs placed earlier will be removed by the borough.

WESTMORELAND COUNTY

The Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival will return to Twin Lakes Park, east of Greensburg, for its 48th year from June 30 to July 3.

The festival will offer an artist market, food vendors, entertainment, presentations, children’s activities, an adult poetry and short story contest and the Westmoreland Art Nationals Juried Fine Art and Photography Exhibition.

The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. More information can be found here.

Also on July 4, Applebee’s restaurants in Hempfield, Murrysville, Mt. Pleasant Township and North Huntingdon will offer a “Kids Eat Free” special for children ages 12 years and younger.

Patrons must mention the offer and dine in, and the free meal must be accompanied by the purchase of an adult entrée.

Derry Township

Keystone State Park will celebrate the history of tea with a Boston Tea Party at 1 p.m. on July 4.

Attendees will join the park naturalist for a nature walk to explore the best plants for tea and learn about the role tea played in history. There will be samples of teas made from wildflowers.

The program is free, but registration is required here.

Greensburg

The annual Summer Sparklers free concert will take place at 7 p.m. on July 3 in Greensburg’s St. Clair Park.

Conducted by Daniel Meyer, music will include classics, patriotic favorites and pops.

Bring a chair or blanket to sit on the lawn.

Hempfield

Historic Hanna’s Town, a Revolutionary War settlement, will hold a July 4 celebration from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Admission is free, and visitors can take self-guided tours around the historic area. There will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence at 2 p.m.

Claridge

Schoolhouse Tavern and Penn Trafford Soccer Club will host the Claridge Fair from June 30 to July 3 at the Bushy Run Soccer Complex.

The fair will include food, drinks, vendors, rides and live music, running from 5-11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

There will be a fireworks display at 9 p.m. on July 3.

Latrobe

The “Celebrate Latrobe” Fourth of July Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. and follow the annual parade route — Ligonier Street at Irving Avenue, Weldon Street, Jefferson Street and Chestnut Street.

Immediately following the parade, the celebration will continue with craft, food and game vendors, as well as live music.

A fireworks display will begin at 9:45 p.m.

Ligonier Township

Idlewild & SoakZone will “Celebrate AMERICA!” from July 1-4, with entertainment, activities and a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. on July 3.

Military members will receive free admission with a valid military ID and can purchase up to four discounted tickets at $44.99.

Mt. Pleasant

“Party in the Park” with fireworks will begin at 5 p.m. on July 3 at the Mt. Pleasant Gazebo.

Mt. Pleasant Township

The second annual Mike Reese Memorial 5K Roast Run and Family Fun will begin at Pavilion 1 in Mammoth Park at 10 a.m. on July 3, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.

State Rep. Mike Reese died unexpectedly in January 2021, and a foundation was established in his memory to help youth athletics.

New Kensington

Fireworks by Tanks Fireworks will be at about 9:30 to 9:45 p.m. at AK Valley Park, 600 Freeport Road. There is no charge for access to front lawn where there will be music and food trucks beginning at 11 a.m. There will be a $5 charge for admission to a gated area where a band, MoJo, will begin performing at 6 p.m.
