Lena woman dies from injuries sustained in explosion

A woman is dead and another man is seriously hurt following an explosion in Lena earlier this week.

A woman is dead and a man is seriously hurt after an explosion in rural Lena.

Authorities were called to a home on East Greenvale Road for a fire on Saturday, June 18, according to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's office. 

Once on scene, authorities learned a fuel barrel was placed on a bonfire which led to an explosion. A man and a woman were severely burned during the explosion, according to the sheriff's office.

Both the man and woman were airlifted to UW-Madison University Hospital for treatment. The woman, later identified as 28-year-old Taylor Musser, died six days later from injuries sustained in the explosion.

The man was still in critical condition as of late Tuesday night, according to the sheriff's office. 

The incident is remains under investigation.
