Several state swimming areas closed due to bacteria

Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Several swimming areas across the state are closed for water retesting today.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has announced Gay City State Park in Hebron, Quaddick State Park in Thompson, and Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield are closed to swimmers until the results are complete.

The swimming areas are closed due to high bacteria levels in the water, DEEP said.

Results of the retests are expected Thursday.

In addition, DEEP saqid Mashamoquet Brook State Park in Pomfret will remain closed for maintenance.
