East Morgan County Library News: Check out what’s happening at the library in Brush over next few weeks

Albert Einstein once said, “The only thing that you absolutely have to know is the location of the library.” For the next few weeks, we are encouraging our community to know where the library is.

Our patrons found our library on Wednesday, June 22 for our Rotation Station at Summer Reading Program. Over 150 people, young and old, enjoyed the vehicles the City of Brush Street Department brought over. The City allowed kids to climb in the equipment and honk the horns. Margo and Melody brought their animals for patrons to enjoy in a petting zoo, and we even had some excitement with a rabbit, a dog, a child and an adult running with a chicken!

This Wednesday, June 29, at 3 p.m. we will have an ocean-themed activity, and the next week, July 6, we will be hosting Meghan Casey, an award-winning ventriloquist.

Patrons have been bringing quilts for the 34th Annual Quilt Show, which begins Wednesday, June 29 at 10 a.m. at the library in Brush. A wide array of quilts will be on display each day from June 29 through Saturday, July 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The quilt show will be closed on Sunday, July 3, but it will be open for the Fourth of July festivities from 7 to 11 a.m. Monday. Following the Fourth of July, the quilt show’s hours will resume from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, and running through Saturday, July 9. We look forward to seeing everyone.

While the main part of the library will be closed to the public on July 4, there will be many activities taking place on the library park grounds.

The Lions Club breakfast will be in the library park from 6 to 10 a.m. The cost for the breakfast is $10 for adults and $6 for kids.

The Friends of the Library will be hosting their annual Fourth of July book sale from 7 to 11 a.m. on Monday, July 4, and the Quilt Show will take place in the Carnegie Room from 7 to 11 a.m. that day. (The book sale is also happening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2 ahead of the holiday.)

Also, there is plenty of park space to watch the Brush Chamber’s Fourth of July Parade, which starts at 10 a.m. on the west side of the library park.

The Tween and Teen Book and Movie Club finished up reading “The Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library” and is starting on the classic story of “Swiss Family Robinson,” written by Johann David Wyss. “Swiss Family Robinson” was first published in the year 1812 and is a story of survival on a deserted tropical island. Every day on the island brings the family a new adventure and new obstacles to overcome as they struggle to survive in a land isolated from society. If you are interested in joining us during the month of July, you can pick up your copy of the book at the library or download it using Hoopla or Libby apps.

Some additional programs coming up during the month of July are Loteria, Gentle Yoga and Harry Potter Family Yoga.

Loteria will take place on Wednesday, July 6 at 5:30 p.m. Join us to play Lotería, a Mexican bingo-like game, and enjoy light refreshments. If you’re lucky, you might even win a prize!

Gentle Yoga has been changed to occur every Tuesday at 10 a.m. Enjoy the benefits of yoga in this beginner-friendly, chair-supported practice. Stretch and strengthen during this 30-40-minute yoga class and end with a short meditation. No equipment or registration needed. Just wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. There is no cost to attend.

Then on July 9 at 10:15 a.m., join Megan for Harry Potter Family Yoga. The wizarding world is coming to your yoga mat! We will move through a family-friendly flow of magical poses to a soundtrack from the Harry Potter films ending with a short reading from one of the books. Muggles of all ages and levels are welcome! If you’re nervous your little muggles may not make it all the way through the class, come anyway! There will be opportunities for them to get their wiggles out and you can always leave early if needed. Bring your own mats or borrow one of ours. No registration required. There is no cost to attend.
