WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — Ahead of this 4th of July weekend, two popular rides at Kennywood Park are closed for repairs.

Kennywood General Manager Mark Pauls provided a statement confirming the Steel Curtain coaster is closed and they’re working to reopen it as soon as possible -- although no timeline was given.

“We appreciate our guests’ patience as we work closely with the ride’s manufacturer to reopen Steel Curtain as soon as possible. We are just as disappointed as our guests are for it to not be available. This record-setting ride is the first of its kind, and requires additional maintenance to best ensure guest and team member safety, which is our top priority,” Pauls said in the statement.

“Our expert team of carpenters and maintenance staff is working hard toward the goal of opening Thunderbolt in time for the holiday weekend, which will also be highlighted by the return of fireworks and our Celebrate America event for the first time since 2019,” Pauls said.

The Thunderbolt is also closed, but Pauls said they have a goal of opening in time for the holiday weekend.

His statement continued on to say, “We will keep guests updated as soon as each ride is able to open. Guests can check our Attractions page to learn of scheduled ride closures in advance of their visit.”
