NEW BEDFORD — A fire that broke out at a garage in New Bedford on Tuesday evening started as a vehicle in the garage was being repaired — and firefighters also responded to two other fires at the same time.

No injuries were reported in any of the three incidents, the city's fire department confirmed to WBSM News.

Dispatchers received multiple 911 calls yesterday just before 6 p.m. reporting a fire in a three-stall garage in the city's North End, according to a release from the department.

The garage was located behind a three-family home at 242 Nash Rd.

Crews arrived to find a "large volume" of fire coming out of the garage, the release noted, with two vehicles inside the garage also on fire.

The department stated in a Facebook post that the fire was accidental, and started as repairs were being done to one of the vehicles in the garage.

Despite the massive flames, no civilians or firefighters were injured in the garage fire, the post noted.

Meanwhile as crews continued to battle the Nash Road blaze, the fire department also responded to a Cedar Street vehicle fire and a fire on a Howard Avenue porch.

The porch fire broke out on a second floor porch at 88 Howard Ave.

According to the department's post, the Howard Avenue fire was caused by discarded smoking materials.

What a Key to the City of New Bedford Should Get You

In the old days, receiving a key to the city actually opened some physical doors. Nowadays, it's more for opening figurative ones. Here are some things that should be a benefit for the few fortunate enough to receive a key to New Bedford.

New Bedford's Five Tallest Buildings

New Bedford isn't known for tall buildings, but there are a few that tower over some others (pun intended).
