Drainage issues at the VFW Arena got a little more expensive after a review of two quotes by the East Grand Forks council Tuesday night.
Frost has heaved the concrete leading to the doors creating a negative drain slope and ponding of water that flows into the building. The potential fix includes a demo of existing concrete to install a catch basin…adding new curb and gutter…plus a sidewalk connecting the VFW and Blue Line Arena with the front parking lot.
An initial estimate put the work at some $77,000 dollars. The low bid came in at over $119,000 dollars.
City Engineer Steve Emery says the project scope could be scaled back to save a few dollars. Council member Brian Larson says with no movement on a sales tax vote it might be wise to go all the way.
The money would come from the city’s storm water fund. The council is expected to make a final decision next week.
