Semis, car involved in fiery crash east of Winfield

WINFIELD, Kan. (KSNW) — On Wednesday, a fiery crash occurred in Winfield involving two semis and a car near the U.S. 160 and Kansas Highway 360 intersection just after 7 a.m.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), a semi traveling north on K-360 failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into a semi that was eastbound on U-160. The trailer of the semi on U-160 hit a Jeep that was headed west on U-160.

The driver of the northbound semi, a 41-year-old El Dorado man, was taken to a Wichita hospital in serious condition. The driver of the semi on U-160, a 27-year-old Wichita man, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

A woman and a 3-month-old baby in the Jeep had minor injuries. The woman refused treatment. The infant was taken by private vehicle to a local hospital.

The intersection was closed for most of the day.

This crash was investigated by the Kansas Highway Patrol. The Winfield Police Department, Winfield Fire and EMS, Cowley County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Department of Transportation, Arkansas City Fire Department, Burden Fire Department and Cowley County Emergency Management all assisted.
