Hathaway bests Camp in race for 14th Dist. Judge
In the closest-watched local primary race Tuesday, Colby G. Hathaway defeated Kewanee's Lance Camp for the 14th Judicial Circuit Judge nomination.
With just 21 percent of Henry County voters turning out for the June 28 primary, Hathaway counted 2,817 supporters (38 percent) to Camp's 2,343 (32 percent). Hathaway will be the Republican nominee to replace Judge Jeffrey O'Connor in the Nov. 8 general election.

Only 7,283 of the county's 34,163 registered voters turned out for the primary election. Of those voting, using preliminary data, was 5,423 were Republican and 1,797 were Democrat.
Kewanee's highest-turnout precinct was Kewanee's 11th, which had 21 percent turnout. The lowest-turnout precinct was Kewanee's 6th, which had just 7 percent of voters cast a ballot.
In the only contested County Board race, for District 1, Republican voters had 12 choices for 10 spots.
Tim Yager won the most votes with 1,912, followed by Tim Wells with 1,794 and Kippy Breeden with 1,700.
Two Republican candidates, Raymond Elliott and Arthur Louis Fanter, did not make the cut and won't be on the November ballot.
The other candidates who will be on the Dist. 1 ballot are Kathy Nelson, Bob Wachtell, Jill Darin, Mark Burton, Rex E. Kiser, Joseph Garrity and James E. Thompson.
Two referendums on the ballot, for the Colona and Coal Valley Fire Districts, narrowly failed.
