Dan Swanson Defeats Matthew Rauschert for Republican Nomination in 71st District

Dan Swanson will be the Republican Candidate in newly drawn 71st district for Illinois Representative come November challenging Democrat Christopher Demink (DUH – MINK) come this fall in the General Election. Demink from Sherrard was un-opposed in yesterday’s General Primary Election. Swanson from Alpha, has been a state representative since 2017 and defeated Matthew Rauschert from Avon in Tuesday’s Primary with over 70 percent of the vote. In Warren County, Swanson defeated Rauschert 937 votes to 489, or nearly 66 percent of the vote.

Republican Incumbent Norine Hammond was un-opposed in the 94th representative district in the primary. No Democrat filed for the newly drawn 94th District to challenge Hammond. Some mail-in votes still need to be counted and the Illinois State Board of Elections will need to verify the results before they are official.

For State Senator in the 36th District, Mike Thoms defeated Glen Evans Sr for the Republican nomination and will now face Democrat Mike Halpin in November. Halpin was un-opposed in Tuesday’s Primary. Thoms received nearly 63 percent of the vote in Warren County, and around 70 percent throughout the district.
