The long-awaited Rebellion Bourbon Bar & Kitchen — a new bar and restaurant in downtown Leesburg — is just about ready for primetime. If all goes as planned, the Rebellion team will hold their official grand opening next Friday, July 8.

The region’s latest Rebellion location has been in the work for more than two years. The Burn wrote about it back in January 2020.

It’s coming to 1 North King Street, at the prominent intersection of King Street and Market Street. The building is three stories — and Rebellion is using every inch — right down to an office tucked away behind a hidden door.

The Burn got a tour of the new space this week. When you walk in off the street, you are greeted by a large wrap-around bar with tables surrounding it. Food is available in the bar area, but it’s not the full dining room menu.

For that, you have to go upstairs to the second floor dining room, which includes two cozy rooms with an assortment of tables. When you go, check out the art on the walls. The “paintings” are digital screens where the art can be changed.

Finally, up on the third floor — a former storage space — there will be a private cigar bar. It’s opening will be announced in the near future — and it will be limited to 75 members who get their own locker-like humidor for keeping their private stash of cigars and spirts.

The Leesburg location is one of two Rebellion Bourbon Bar & Kitchens. The other is in Fredericksburg. There are two other Rebellion bourbon bars elsewhere, but they have separate ownership and aren’t affiliated with the Leesburg and F’burg locations.

Rebellion has been holding some pre-opening events for friends and family this week. This begs the question could they open their doors quietly — a soft opening — sooner than July 8? No official word on that, but lots of restaurants do it. However, that would only happen if everything is 100 percent ready.
