The Jackson Pathfinders maintain four woodland trails in Jackson:
• The Silver Stream Trail, across from 254 Frank Applegate Road and within the Metedeconk Preserve of the New Jersey Conservation Foundation. The Pathfinders are officially honored by the foundation as guardians of this trail;
• The Steve Kitay Living Trail, on Jackson municipal land, accessed via the Silver Stream Trail;
• The Purple Heart Trail, across from 820 East Veterans Highway (Route 527/528) and within the Bunker Hill Bogs Recreation Area of Jackson;
• The Jackson Jungle Children’s Trail, within the Jackson Justice Complex. Adjacent to the Jackson Jungle Play Park, it is to the left on the way to the Ocean County Library Jackson Branch.
The trails are free and open to the public every day, according to a press release. The Pathfinders’ trails are for nature appreciation, hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding (no bikes or horses on the children’s trail). Visit https://www.jacksonpathfinders.org/wp/ for more information.
The Jackson Police Department will be conducting traffic enforcement details during July in an effort to prevent motor vehicle crashes, according to a press release issued by Sgt. Michael Friedman, the department’s public information officer.
According to Friedman, in 2021, Jackson reported 1,531 motor vehicle crashes. Of those crashes, two were fatal.
Friedman said the need for driver education and enforcement is an ongoing issue due to increased traffic volume in the township. Officers will be deployed at various locations known to experience a high volume of motor vehicle crashes.
Officers will be looking for violations including, but not limited to, primary collision factors involving speed, red light violations, distracted driving, un-belted drivers and right of way violations.
When violations are observed, violators will be cited and/or educated on the safety concerns associated with the violation.
Friedman said the police department’s ultimate goal is to enforce the regulations and to educate the driving public while reducing serious injuries and fatal collisions. Questions may be directed to the Jackson Township Traffic Safety Unit.
