Fourth Death In Mendon Train Derailment

The fatality count from Monday’s Amtrak derailment near Mendon is now at four.  The Missouri Highway Patrol confirmed the latest fatality is a passenger that was taken to University Hospital in Columbia.  That brings the number of passenger deaths to three and the fourth is the driver of the dumptruck.

One-hundred-fifty people were taken from the scene to 10 area hospitals for treatment of a full range of injuries from minor to serious.

The final count by Amtrak is 275 passengers and 12 crew members on the train.

NTSB arrived on the scene and has begun their investigation, meeting with crew members, interviewing passengers, and interviewing emergency services personnel.

NTSB is working to collect data recorders from the train and if possible from the truck.  They will also collect the footage from the train’s front-facing cameras.
