On Saturday, June 24, 2022, an overflow crowd enjoyed the unique experience of hearing history as seen through the 100 year old eyes of Mr. George Krumme, who enthralled the crowd with early tales from Bristow history. Mr. Krumme has recently finished writing a book entitled "Tales of our Town - Early Bristow, Oklahoma" and shared some of the stories with the appreciative crowd. Laughter filled the room as he told about how his wife was an amazing dancer and even won a dance contest one time. Sadly, however, Mr. Krumme was not a dancer and didn't help with the win. He also told the story of how he was present when the Chrysler Tower was originally raised and he discussed the techniques used to accomplish that task. Always quick with a response, Mr. Krumme fielded questions from the audience and it seemed that everyone in the room truly enjoyed the historical moments unfolding in front of us.

Mr. Krumme's book covers early Bristow history to approximately the 1950's and has some amazing photos included. All expenses to print the book were covered by Mr. Krumme and 100% of the proceeds go to the Bristow Historical Society, Inc. as they work to preserve and share Bristow history. The 470 page hardback book sells for $40 and is available for purchase at the Bristow Historical Museum at the depot Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.. The museum's gift shop has other items for sale and all proceeds go to the Route 66 Landmark Renovation Project, which will restore and preserve four local historical landmarks: the Chrysler Tower, the FRISCO water tower, Town Square and will provide much needed exterior repairs on the 100 year old depot.

The Historical Society would like to thank the board and staff of the Montfort and Allie B. Jones Library for allowing us to hold the event at their beautiful facility. We would also like to thank everyone who came out to support the historical society and Mr. Krumme. What a wonderful day it was for Bristow! Our final "thank you" goes to Mr. George Krumme, who could choose to be anywhere on the planet on this beautiful Friday, but he chose to spend a very busy afternoon signing books for his Bristow friends. There's just nothing like the feeling of real community - and that was deeply felt at the library today!

Bristow's history matters and we appreciate all who help us protect, preserve, and share that history.
