A man was arrested in connection to the homicide of 32-year-old DonorSee founder Gret Glyer, according to Fairfax City Police officials.
Joshua Danehower, 33, of Arlington, Va., was arrested at Dulles International Airport Tuesday night. He was charged with second-degree murder in connection with Glyer's death, according to police. He was also charged with one count of use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Danehower is being held at Fairfax Adult Detention Center without bond.
Danehower is a FedEx employee at Dulles airport, according to Fairfax City police, and was known to Glyer's family. Authorities are looking into a connection between two men through a church.
FedEx issued the following statement about the arrest of Danehower: “We extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible incident. We plan to fully cooperate with law enforcement in their investigation.”
Last Friday, Fairfax City Police Department said officers received a 911 call from a neighbor reporting that a man had been shot. When officers arrived at the scene around 2:58 a.m., they went inside a home located on the 9800 block of Bolton Village Court and found Glyer dead inside the home.
Police said several shots were fired as Glyer while slept in bed next to his wife. An investigation revealed the suspect was an acquaintance of the family.
Police said while they are still working to learn the motive for the shooting, that the men may be connected through their church. All of that is still under investigation.
7News learned that Glyer was a husband and a father. His wife, Heather Glyer, issued a statement Wednesday:
“I am grateful to the police and everyone who has worked so hard to make this arrest happen so quickly. I am thankful for the outpouring of support we've received from our church, friends, family, and people we haven't even met. Gret was my best friend and an incredible husband and father. He had an amazing heart for helping the people who need it most, and I know that legacy will live on. I know that God is with me and has a plan for my life and for the lives of our children. We would appreciate your prayers.”
Glyer was also the founder of a nonprofit called DonorSee, which aims to reduce poverty.
"Gret Glyer dreamed of a world without extreme poverty. Through his years of humble persistence and inspirational leadership, he did more to move humanity toward that goal than most people thought possible," DonorSee’s Interim CEO, Owen O’Doherty, said in a statement on Tuesday. "We are saddened beyond words by his tragic, untimely passing. Our hearts are especially with his wife, Heather, and his two children. We know that he would have wanted us to carry on the visionary work he started, and we will do so with special determination."
