Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– The newly redone pool area at the Bedell Family YMCA is making its debut this week.

The upgrade is part of the Igniting a Healthy Legacy campaign, which aims to enhance programs and facilities to give community members the best experience.

Like many other recent projects, the aquatic center was no exception to delays says Bedell Family YMCA CEO Andrew Fisher.

The Ignite campaign planning saw several starts and stops since they began in 2019 according to Fisher. He says much of the planning had to be done by video conference, but they made it work and were able to proceed with the public portion of the aquatic center project in October of 2021.

Fisher says that the whole area was redone from a physical standpoint, and was glad to be able to give the facility the “love and attention” it needed after being open for over 15 years.

Swim team and swim lessons will be held in the updated facilities, and a full schedule of summer activities will be published so visitiors can see pool availability.

The Bedell Family YMCA is part of the national network of YMCAs, so any member visiting from across the country can use the pool and day and seasonal passes are available for non-members.
