PORTAGE, Wis. — Two motorcyclists were killed in a crash on State Highway 33 west of Portage Tuesday afternoon, the Wisconsin State Patrol said.
In a news release, police said the crash happened around 4:45 p.m. on Highway 33 east of Interstate 90/94.
According to the state patrol, a semi-truck driver was preparing to turn left from Highway 33 into a private driveway with a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2017 Ford F-150 pickup truck stopped behind it when a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck failed to stop and hit the motorcycle, pushing it into the first pickup. Both motorcyclists were thrown from the vehicle and later died.
The state patrol did not release their names but said they are a 60-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman from Portage.
The driver of the Silverado, a 73-year-old man from Park Rapids, Minnesota, and a 71-year-old female passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The state patrol said the crash remains under investigation and that it’s too soon to say whether that driver could face citations or charges.
The driver of the F-150, a 28-year-old Portage man, was not hurt.
Highway 33 was closed for nearly three hours due to the crash.
