Nick McWilliams reporting – Following a pre-trial hearing Tuesday, one individual charged in the dumping of a body in Goshen Township could plead guilty.
In October, the body of 38-year-old Amber Sherrell was found wrapped in plastic along White Bridge Road, with indictments announced in March.
The two facing criminal charges are 38-year-old Daniel Fitzgerald and 25-year-old Cekoyia Reichers, both of Akron.
Reichers appeared before Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Judge Michael Ernest Tuesday, with her legal counsel alluding to a change of plea next week, something Assistant Prosecutor Scott Deedrick welcomed.
“I will go through the next step of formally preparing a colloquy, and sending it to Mr. [Jacob] Will so that they have something to review with their client. We do have the status [hearing] next Tuesday. That’s fine, and I have no problem, obviously, having a change of plea at that time.”
Reichers initially pled not guilty to five charges including three counts of tampering with evidence, a count of gross abuse of a corpse, and one count of failure to report a death.
The co-defendant in the case, Fitzgerald, is scheduled to appear for his final pre-trial hearing on August 9th, with a jury trial set to occur August 17th, barring any changes.
