CHEBOYGAN — The Cheboygan Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 122 will be bringing country music star Sylvia to the stage at Cheboygan High School for its annual fundraising concert.

The concert at 7 p.m. on July 14, sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police, will be in the Cheboygan High School gymnasium that Thursday evening. Tickets for the event are $20 each per person, or $35 for a pair. A family of up to eight people can attend the event for $50. In the past, these have been sold out shows for the lodge.

"For over 25 years, our Cheboygan County FOP Lodge 122 has done a country music show fundraiser," said Barry Faulkner of the Fraternal Order of Police. "All our proceeds stay right here in Cheboygan County."

In the past, the Fraternal Order of Police has brought acts that have included Wade Hayes, Lacy J. Dalton and Ronnie McDowell to the Cheboygan Area Schools High School gymnasium for its annual summer concert event. This year, the featured performer will be Sylvia Hutton, who was known by her first name when she was performing in the 1980s.

Sylvia is known for some of her hits, including "Nobody," "Tumbleweed," "Like Nothing Ever Happened," and "Heart on the Mend."

Cheboygan is one of the stops on Sylvia's latest tour. She will be playing in Owosso on July 11, Manistee on July 12, Cadillac July 13, then Cheboygan. She will then be playing in several other states after the Cheboygan show, including Texas, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Arizona.

"There is no age limit," said Faulkner. "This is a great, wholesome event that the whole family will enjoy."

All proceeds from this event go to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 122 to help the lodge continue its community outreach programs and sponsorships of local community events. The money generated from the concerts is used to purchase all the hotdogs and other food handed out at the annual Trunk or Treat in the Walmart parking lot for Halloween. There are also youth baseball, softball and hockey teams the lodge sponsors with those funds.

The group also helps to sponsor kids day at the Cheboygan County Fair, as well as the Shop with a Hero event at the Cheboygan Walmart each December. They also give a yearly scholarship to a graduating senior.

This is the only fundraiser the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 122 does each year.
