WHITINSVILLE — Koopman Lumber & Hardware, a family-owned business with operations in Milford and Hudson, said it has acquired Springfield-based Boilard Lumber for an undisclosed price.

Founded in 1939, Koopman Lumber offers lumber, hardware, paint, lawn and garden stores in 10 communities and employing more than 200 people. Boilard, a family-owned and operated retail lumber yard, was founded in 1936 and began by providing western Massachusetts builders with mason supplies.

“We’re excited about the opportunities this merger presents,” said Dirk Koopman, chief operating officer at Koopman Lumber, in a statement. “It’s an honor to partner with a business as well respected as Boilard Lumber, and to expand our business into western Massachusetts."

Officials from Koopman Lumber in Whitinsville announced this week that they have acquired Boilard Lumber. Koopman Lumber's leaders include Tony Brookhouse, Denise Brookhouse and Dirk Koopman.

Koopman added that his business has an "experienced transition team," with the goal of executing a smooth transition of the merger.

"We’ll offer additional product lines, enhanced capabilities and greater resources, all in the capable hands of the same staff who know their customers and their business needs,” he said.

Boilard Lumber adopted the Koopman name this week. All Boilard employees were welcomed to remain on staff with Vice President Robert Boilard remaining as general manager.

“After 86 years of continuous family ownership, we are happy to have found another business that shares our history and values to continue our legacy in western Massachusetts,” said Boilard Lumber Presiden Mike Boilard, in a statement. “It was important to us to turn the reins over to people who are as committed as we have been to both our customers and employees. The Koopman family fits that bill.”

Koopman Lumber offers three full-line lumber, hardware, paint, lawn and garden stores in Whitinsville, Uxbridge and North Grafton; a single lumber, hardware, paint and design center in Sharon; a full-service paint store in Milford; lumber yards and kitchen design centers in Hudson, Andover and Fairhaven; and distribution centers in Uxbridge and Sutton.

The business specializes in building materials and supplies, including lumber and hardware, moulding and millwork, tools, power equipment, windows and doors, engineered lumber, kitchen and more.
