Restaurant damaged in fire on Route 5 in Bernardston

BERNARDSTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Multiple fire rescue teams worked through the morning Wednesday to stop a fire at a restaurant in Bernardston.

According to Chief Peter Shedd, the fire started around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Falltown Grill which was formerly the Four Leaf Clover. It appeared to have started in the roof. Fire teams from Gill, South Deerfield, Northfield and Brattleboro assisted in containing the fire.

The Chief said because the building was a restaurant and filled with tables and chairs, it took a lot of man power to get things under control. By around 4:30 a.m. the fire was out but had left extensive damage to the roof and the building’s interior.

This impacted travel on South Street, also known as Route 5. However, it is back open and traffic is running smoothly.

The restaurant recently opened under a new name and went under renovations to the building. 22News spoke with the son of the former owner of the restaurant about this devastating fire.

“From Bernardston my whole life. My father owned the place, I was in here for probably 20 years, I’m 29 now, I’ve been in there my whole life,” said Jesse Snow. “Lots of great memories… lots of great workers… lots of great employees… lots of great people. Very sad.”

No one was injured in the fire and the fire was contained to just the restaurant. No information is available on what caused the fire. 22News will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
