Celtic could make massive £5.5 million loss on star

Celtic have recruited brilliantly ever since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager. The results are clearly visible on the pitch, as the Hoops won a Premiership and League Cup double last season, when nobody expected them to even come close to challenging the Rangers, having finished 25 points behind the Ibrox side in their previous campaign.

Two of the best signings that Celtic made last summer was that of Carl Starfelt, from Rubin Kazan, and Cameron Carter-Vickers, who had been on loan from Tottenham Hotspur but has been signed on a permanent basis since then. Both have formed a brilliant partnership in the heart of defence for the Hoops.

That has put Christopher Jullien’s future at the club in doubt though, as the Frenchman spent more than a year out of action due to injury and has made only one appearance for Celtic ever since returning to full fitness, earlier this year.

Celtic had signed Jullien for a transfer fee around £7 million in the summer of 2019. But as reported by The Scottish Sun, Rennes and Lorient are among clubs interested in the defender with French sources claiming a bid of £1.5 million could be made.

It is hard to imagine any club even coming close to matching the £7 million transfer fee that Celtic had shelled out to sign Jullien.

The Frenchman has spent the previous two seasons barely kicking a ball and on top of that, he has only a year left on his current deal as well.

At the same time, if a decent offer comes in, it would make sense for Celtic to let Jullien go. It is hard to see him breaking into Postecoglou’s plans anytime soon and he could walk out as a free agent next summer.
