Penn State has been red-hot in putting together its 2023 recruiting class across the past couple of weeks, and Tuesday that Nittany Lions added another name to the list.

Ryan Backer, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound kicker/punter from Kennett, announced his commitment. He will join the program as a preferred walk-on.

“After what has been a thrilling recruiting process I am beyond grateful to say I am committed to Penn State University,” Barker wrote on Twitter.

Barker thanked his family and friends and coach James Franklin and assistant Stacy Collins “for giving a small-town kid a chance.”

“This is truly dreams turned into reality,” he wrote. “I am excited to get to work, and see where this journey takes me.”

Barker is rated as a 4.5-star kicker and punter by Kohl’s Kicking.
