ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Worcester Red Sox (38-35) began their six-game series with Rochester Red Wings (40-33) with a 4-2 victory on Tuesday night at Frontier Field.

Worcester plated a pair in the first inning thanks to a two-run single from Ronaldo Hernandez off the big-league rehabbing Anibal Sanchez.

Hernandez brought home Christin Stewart in the third inning on a single and a fielding error by Rochester center fielder Andrew Stevenson.

The Red Wings scored their first run on a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning. Jake Noll hit a solo home run to make it a 3-2 game in the sixth.

Connor Wong doubled home a run in the eighth inning to extend Worcester’s lead to 4-2. Over his last 31 games, Wong is hitting .323 with 15 extra-base hits and 13 runs batted in.

In his sixth outing with the WooSox, Kutter Crawford went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Crawford walked one and struck out a season-high eight batters. It was Crawford’s longest outing of the season.

Eduard Bazardo followed Crawford and tossed two perfect innings of relief.

Kaleb Ort picked up his 12th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning. Ort has not given up a run over his last seven appearances.

Worcester has now won seven of its last eight games.
