Election officials report challenger Jeff Gray has overwhelmingly defeated Utah County Attorney David Leavitt in his bid for re-election, according to initial numbers released by the Utah County Election Commission.

Soon after polls closed, Gray was reported with 73 percent of the vote to Leavitt’s 28 percent in the Republican primary. Just under 54,000 votes had been counted.

There was no Democratic candidate running, meaning Gray would run unopposed in the general election in November.

Leavitt was elected as the 23rd Utah County Attorney in November 2018.
