Battle football coach looks to build “consistent culture” in second season

As he enters his second season as Battle's head football coach, former Missouri offensive lineman Jonah Dubinski says he needs more consistency from his players in order to succeed.

"It's just about building the culture. Consistent in the weight room, consistent in the classroom and consistent practice. We do that, that was our issue last year, we'll be a lot better this year," Dubinksi said.

The Spartans finished 5-5 last season and while Dubinksi says they're working to rebuild the offensive and defensive lines, he's encouraged by the talent coming back.

"We've got some young guys stepping up at receiver, young guys at DB that have done some good things in summer camp, excited to see how they progress throughout the summer and into August," Dubinksi said.

With Dubinski not stepping into the role until late July last year, he's looking forward to having more time this year to perfect his team.

"Honestly, we had too many turnovers in crucial moments, not taking care of the ball. We had a short time to develop our team last year but we've had a ton this offseason like we're culture setting and excited to see how that translates to wins and losses," Dubinski added.

Battle will open up the season at home on Aug. 26 against Park Hill at 7:00 p.m.
