GRPD: 1 in custody, 1 sought in shooting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — One suspect was arrested and police are searching for another in connection to a shooting in Grand Rapids, according to authorities.

The Grand Rapids Police Department said officers tried to pull over a vehicle Tuesday night, but the driver did not stop. After a short pursuit, the car stopped on Lafayette Avenue SE near the intersection of MLK Street SE.

The driver was taken into custody Tuesday night for fleeing and eluding, according to GRPD.

A passenger ran away from the scene. A perimeter was set up, and a portion of Lafayette was taped off.

A News 8 crew on scene heard police telling occupants in a home to come out around 10:50 p.m. Police checked the nearby area and then left shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday.

The person was not found, according to GRPD.

Police on scene told News 8 that the person officers were searching for was wanted in connection to a homicide. However, in a news release Wednesday, GRPD said the suspects were wanted in connection to a shooting. The police department did not say where the shooting happened and did not know about injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact GRPD Major Case Team detectives at 616.456.3380 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
