Fred Harlan would be the first to admit that he wasn't always on board with electric vehicles.
"I'm a believer in it now. It took a while for me to embrace this, but it's here," said Harlan.
It's here now in a big way, literally. His dealership is one of the first in the country to get the new all-electric F-150 Lightning. But truck owners tend to like horsepower and gasoline.
When it comes to horsepower it has that in spades. 0-60 in just over four seconds.
"I'm a hot rod guy. I don't make any bones about it. The only thing you don't have with this car is the rumpety rumpety cam and the exhaust," he said.
You also don't have an engine, but a giant trunk. So why is this truck considered by so many to be a game changer? Because it doesn't change the game.
"It's an electric F-150. We've got gas F-150s, we've got gas-hybrid F-150s, and now we have a full electric F-150."
That's why Harlan believes Oklahomans may bite on this one. It's the same F-150 that has been the best-selling car in America for over 40 years, but with a different drive train. They already have sold out this year's production.
"It's not just a fad, it's going to be here. We've seen laws being talked about that internal combustion engine production could stop in 2035, so we've got ten years to get ready for it," Harlan said.
Until then, Harlan acknowledges this may not be a car for long-range road trippers with its 230-mile range. But he sees tremendous potential for small businesses and people who just want the reliability of a truck with the technology of tomorrow.
