Crash critically injures pedestrian waiting at crosswalk in Florence

A car spun out after a collision and went up the sidewalk, where the man was waiting to cross the road.

BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (WXIX) - A man is in critical condition after he was hit by a car while waiting on the sidewalk to cross a road in Florence, according to the Florence Police Department.

It happened at 5:45 p.m. at Dixie Highway and Banklick Street.

A driver in a Chevy Equinox was going southbound on Dixie Highway. They tried to turn onto Banklick when police say they hit a Toyota Scion driving north on Dixie Highway.

The Chevy hit the Toyota in the rear corner of the passenger side, causing the Chevy to spin out of control and go up on the sidewalk, where it hit the pedestrian who was waiting at the crosswalk, police say.

Florence EMS transported the pedestrian to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Chevy was transported to St. Elizabeth-Florence Hospital with “possible injuries,” police say.

No other people were injured.

Police have not identified anyone involved.

The Florence Police Accidental Reconstruction Team is investigating.
