NATCHITOCHES – A pair of Northwestern State tennis players have been recognized as two of the state's top players.
Sophomores
Mariella Minetti and
Viktorie Wojcikova earned first-team recognition on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Women's College Tennis Team, which was announced Tuesday afternoon by the organization.
The pair's first-team honors made NSU, the Southland Conference regular-season champion, one of two teams to place multiple players on the six-member first team. Tulane also had a pair of first-team selections.
It is the first time since 2010 the Lady Demons have produced multiple first-team All-Louisiana selections.
Minetti, a Tampere, Finland, native, was a first-team All-Southland Conference selection at No. 3 singles and part of a second-team No. 1 doubles pair. She posted a 15-3 overall mark in singles play, including a 6-0 mark in Southland play, and was 12-5 in doubles play.
Minetti's .833 winning percentage at No. 3 is tied for sixth in school single-season history at that singles position.
Wojcikova matched her teammates' singles mark, going 14-3 at No. 5 singles and 1-0 at No. 4 singles this season. She added a 15-3 doubles mark with teammate
Rozi Dohnalova, earning first-team All-Southland Conference honors at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles with Dohnalova.
Wojcikova's .824 winning percentage at No. 5 singles is the fourth-best single-season mark in school history.
Like Minetti, Wojcikova was undefeated in Southland singles play and notched a perfect conference mark in doubles play. Wojcikova, a native of the Czech Republic, won her final 10 singles matches of the season.
The pair of sophomores are the first NSU players to earn first-team All-Louisiana acclaim since Polina Mutel in 2018.
