A woman who suffered several broken bones after she was arrested by an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper in May has now been charged.
Nancy Kemp, 68, is facing charges of improper use of high beams and driving under the influence, obstructing a police officer, and resisting arrest.
All four charges are misdemeanors.
The charges stem from a traffic stop on Interstate 35 near Seward Road on May 11.
"The State has spent the past month reviewing and analyzing the evidence in this matter," Logan County District Attorney Luara Austin Thomas said in a news release. "Careful consideration and attention were given to both the defendant's behaviors and the officers responses to those behaviors which were required to ensure the safety of the defendant, officer and public."
According to court filings, Kemp tried to remove herself from being detained and then fought with the trooper while he was trying to restrain her.
Another altercation took place after Kemp pulled her hand from the handcuffs and tried to reach for objects near her body as the trooper tried to get her to comply, court filings report.
Kemp also refused commands to stop using her phone during the stop and grabbed her license from the trooper's computer that was on the side of his gun leg, according to court filings.
Kemp's BAC was .093, court filings report.
"A 68 year old woman, screaming, yelling, being totally non-cooperative, attempting to escape and run, fighting with the officer and refusing to comply with lawful demands is no less of a threat to the officer or others than a 32-year-old man or 19-year-old woman," Austin Thomas said.
The trooper involved in the incident suffered minor injuries.
